Resident Connections

Students Staying in Residence Halls Should Update Their Anti-Virus Definitions and Run Windows Update Prior to Registering Their System on the Network......Please Remember to Bring a CAT 5 Cable to Connect Your PC to the Network.....

The procedure for connecting to the computer network through the Residence Halls and Vulcan Village is as follows:

All students must adhere to the student code of conduct before using a campus computer or accessing the campus network. To view the student code of conduct please click here.

This site contains the installation processes for  Windows and Mac based configurations to Cal U's network.

  • You must have a 10/100 baseT Ethernet card installed in your pc with the software driver installed.

  • You must have an Ethernet (CAT-5 or CAT-6) cable connected to the correct jack. It is the student's responsibility to provide the CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable.

  • Microsoft Windows-based Systems - Please be sure to run Windows Update and update your antivirus definitions before or immediately upon connecting your computer to our network. This is necessary to register your computer with Campus Manager. McAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, and AVG are the brands of antivirus software supported.

  • Apple Systems- Apple systems must have at least OS X installed. After registering you should clear your Temporary Internet Files on Apple computers.

Security Management Application (SMA)

When an unregistered computer first attempts to access our network, they are redirected to our Registration page when they open their web browser. On here, you must enter your Username and Password. The Client Security Agent (CSA) checks to verify that your system meets the campus network security policies. If it finds that you need to download an update, you are still able to do so while in registration.

Here are the steps to register a Windows System:

Upon bringing up your web Browser on an unregistered client, you will be redirected to the Security Management Application page:

1. Enter your Username and Password in the allocated spaces without '@cup.edu'. (If you put '@cup.edu on your username, you will get an Authentication Failure error message.)

2.  Click the 'Download' button.

3. Click where it reads 'Click Here to download'.

4. A window will appear and click the 'Run' button.

5. A new window will pop up and click 'Run' a second time.

6. Choose 'Next' and then 'Close', once the install is complete.

7.  When the box pops up with the CSA, please enter your username and password again without '@cup.edu'.

8. The CSA will scan your computer. Click close when it is finished and then please wait while the system re-establishes your connection.

9. If the scan fails, a reason will be displayed. Take the appropriate action and click the 'Rescan' button.
